Are You Up On Your NASCAR Jargon?

Author: Stacey Moore
NASCAR, as with any professional sport, has a language all its own. The meaning and usage of the terms specific to the sport pop up during any discussion about racing action. So you're not left in the dust, following are terms you might hear around the track:

? Air Dam-A strip that hangs under the front grill, very close to the ground. It helps provide downforce at the front of the car.

? Back Marker-A car running off the pace near the rear of the field.

? Banking-The sloping of a racetrack, particularly at a curve or a corner, from the apron to the outside wall.

? Contact Patch-The part of the tire that's actually touching the road.

? Dirty Air-The air used and discarded by the lead car.

? Fabricator-A person who specializes in creating the sheet metal body of a stock car. Most teams employ two or more.

? Setup-Slang term for the tuning and adjustments made to a race car's suspension before and during a race.

? Silly Season-Slang term for the period that begins during the latter part of the current season, wherein some teams announce driver, crew and/or sponsor changes.

? Weight Jacking-The practice of shifting a car's weight to favor certain wheels.

Now that you've brushed up on your racing vocabulary, experience the risks of racing from the edge of your seat with NASCAR 07. This new EA SPORTS game for Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation Portable and Microsoft Xbox challenges players to maneuver their way around the track and survive treacherous situations, while hitting speeds of more than 180 mph with top drivers in the world just inches away from each other. Additional features include:

? All-New Driver Ratings-Compete against a wide range of drivers with specific attributes-from inexperienced rookies to talented veterans. Your experience on the track is different every time.

? Drive with Confidence-Build up the all-new Adrenaline Meter by surviving the most dangerous situations in NASCAR racing to improve handling and increase speed.

? Improved Car Handling-Adjust your car to handle how you want with a user-friendly sliding scale for complete control behind the wheel.
