Johnson Space Center Hit Hurricane Rita

Author: Lance Winslow

Johnson Space Center is famous for its history. Remember the saying; Houston we have a Problem when astronauts were conveying their serious problem as an understatement? Well still today Johnson Space center serves our nations space efforts. Over 15,000 government and civilian contractors work at the facility. However none will working there as Category Five Rita, relentlessly ravages thru the recently remolded Johnson Space Center. On this day, there will be no communication, as it is Houston this time with the problem not those in space.

Will Houston ever be the same after Hurricane Rita, after the flooding and damage? Well, Texans are as tough as they come and we are to put people back on the moon by 2018 and a moon colony by 2020. From there we will launch to Mars from our Lunar base station. Houston, that is to say the famous Johnson Space Center will be as big a part of that as they were during the Apollo Space Missions.

What about those in the International Space Station? Oh no, are they going to be alright? Yes, in fact NASA has already turned over the control to Russian Space Partners, hence the name International Space Station and a good thing too. Johnson Space Center is not more than a quarter mile from Clear Lake, which connect to the Gulf of Mexico thru Galveston. There will be storm surges and it is not safe at Johnson Space Center. As a matter of fact it might be safer in a Colony on the Moon or in the ISS itself right about now, even with the increased Solar Flares.

Johnson Space Center is synonymous with "Mission Control," but you cannot control much during a Category Five Hurricane which is out of control, and that is just about what Hurricane Rita is all about; Complete and Utter Chaos. Hurricane Rita makes one feel as if we are living in the good ole days sending up astronauts in tin cans. If you ever get to Johnson Space Center and see the Museum you will understand exactly why we call those first astronauts heroes. Lets face it there was not a whole lot of protection between those with the right stuff and the void of space. Likewise there is not a whole lot of protection between Hurricane Rita Storm Surge and Johnson Space Center. Think about it.
