Normally the maxim for life is completely the opposite to this title. Everything has to be newer, faster, bigger and more powerful these days but is that really true? Our experience in business has taught us the regrettable consequence of such a maxim is a bland and tasteless experience consisting of bulk standard machine made products that add little to the quality of life.
Now that might be fine in the main, but there are certain times in life when that's just not good enough. We run a company called Willow Wood and we design and manufacture wedding invitations using antique letterpress machines. We produce bespoke products, customers can even design their own and our artwork department will turn their designs into a finished product complete with embossed patterns and letterpressed text.
And you know, this is what customers want and my advice if you're thinking about starting a business is to produce something hand made or unique in design. Give people an experience as well as a purchase and they will thank you for it by buying your products.
We also provide a range of free services some of which are available online, view our typestyle gallery for example this is one of various free online services we have that exist purely for the customers benefit.
Sure people can use our ideas and take them else where but so what? You won't ever win all the business but it's right to offer a high quality service. I've been the little guy subjected to disinterested service from the painted pixie behind the counter of a corporate business. Faceless, passionless and often careless that's the cold impression many businesses give whilst their frustrated customers try to get what they actually need as well as value for money.
We're trying to do things differently and it does take a bit more work but I think there is a real desire amongst consumers to find that quality and experience, a return to former values which is why I say, out with the new and in with the old. Keep the good things from modern society by all means but don't forget time honoured principles.
So if you have skills and talents, produce some products and put them on the internet and see what happens. There is more to it than that of course but there's a wealth of information freely available on the web. Have a look at our site if you like and see if you can get some ideas, you can email me using our website and if I can help or offer some advice I'll be glad to. |
