How Tanning Bed Lotions Make You Happy

Author: Terry Price

If you have ever wondered what is in tanning lotions, this article will give you some information to work with. Remember, when tanning either at the beach or on a tanning bed, you should apply a tanning bed lotion an hour before and an hour after every tanning session, as this will help accelerate the tanning process and help protect your skin. Tanning lotion will actually stimulate the production of a skin pigment called melanin. This is done by the placement of an amino acid in the formulation called tyrosine. It assists the UVB rays by stimulating the melanin production. The sun emits ultraviolet rays that actually oxidize the melanin and produce a golden tan.

Vitamin E has a tremendous antioxidant effect and most tanning lotions contain it. Tyrosine also is an antioxidant it works in conjunction with Vitamin E to help smooth out the wrinkles and fine lines, especially on your face. Regardless of what type of tanning system you choose, whether it is a tanning bed or the beach, the proper lotion will give you that armor of protection that you need.

If you are concerned about minor blemishes and the visibility of scars, tanning lotions include copper as one of the ingredients. Some regular tanners experience a mild form of euphoria after an application of their favorite tanning lotion. This has been attributed to a chemical reaction initiated by copper as it stimulates tyrosine production, which in turn stimulates brain chemicals. Whatever tanning lotion you purchase, it will also have a moisturizing element in it that magnifies the tanning effects of UVA and at the same time counteracts the peeling and drying effects of UVB rays. The environment can be harsh on your skin, so most tanning bed lotions contain aloe vera, hempseed oil, or a variety of other nutrients to guard your skin. Most of all, have fun getting your next suntan!
