Is Your Bakery Using a Scrapbook?

Author: Audrey Okaneko
When my kids were growing up, we ordered birthday cakes almost every year. And each year, I'd have the same discussion with the bakery trying to visualize what the cake might look like. They would tell me that flowers were a standard design, yet there was no photograph of a cake with chocolate frosting and colored flowers.

Other times, I've wanted to order a platter with either cookies or assorted bars on the platter. While the employee can verbally tell me what these trays will look like, the visual would be much better in helping me make my decision.

I've even heard this from wedding couples. A baker will suggest some type of trim for the cake and the while the baker has seen and created this many times, the wedding couple has a hard time visualizing exactly what this trim will look like.

I believe an assortment of scrapbooks could indeed help close the sales. Once the customer sees exactly what they want, they can make the purchase. Alternately, if I see the exact design I want but the colors are a tad different that what I had visualized, I can ask for the design I'm looking at in a different color.

As a baker, take photos of your finished products. Put them into a scrapbook to help create future sales.
