When I first visited Spain in 2003 to start the process of looking for a home to purchase it soon became clear that by opening a Spanish bank account it would make my travels through Spain that much easier. I went into a bank to try and open an account, it was Mission Impossible to say the least. My Spanish was at that time nil, and the bank tellers English was just as good.

I eventually found a translator at some considerable cost, who was able to guide me through the lengthy process of opening an account. The amount of red tape to get through at that time was to say the least mind boggling.

It would be wise to open an account if you intend to stay in the country for 3 months or more. In March of 2004 I bought my Spanish home in the town of Medina Sidonia which is situated in the region of Andalucia. The village itself is situated south east of Jerez where they make Spanish sherry. A beautiful part of Spain!
