The current world population is unknown. But on March 1, 2003 the projection is 6,500,609,361. See http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/popclockworld.html. The increase in population for the month of February, 2006 will be about 6 million. Thats why the Chinese are worried about the birthrate. Some groups say that the earth will accommodate about a zillion people. Im sure our planet will accommodate more people but many more will die of starvation, war, and disease. Some humane control of population is needed. I suggest no sex on odd days of the week and during leap year. Past history has shown that populations are reduced by flood, hell-fire, and brimstone. Tens of millions died during World War II. AIDS has taken its toll and continues to do so. Also according to some, the Bird Flu is coming again as it did in World War I. Disease and starvation clip away. No matter what happens, other than a tremendous celestial boulder plunging us into darkness, there will still be a lot of people on the earth. All 6.5 billion of the current population will eventually die and be buried or cremated or tossed into the Ganges. Millions die daily. The count is 8.78 per 1000. (All of the thousands of Christians that die everyday will want to pile on the lap of Jesus Christ. I'm not sure what the others will want to do.) The birthrate is 20 per thousand. People living in relative peace are not permitted to do so for too long. Some political group will soon displace their way of life with a more enlightened way of life in which they can starve to death if they are lucky. How safe are we Americans? The Taliban was good at this as was the Viet Cong and Khmer Roughe. They are pikers along side of our Air Force bombers. This continual primeval urge to kill is part of our psyche. It is the solution to too many problems. We need to do something to stem the tied. For example, a little more patience with the WMD inspectors would have eventually resolved the perceived WMD problem in Iraq, saved thousands of lives, and permitted the continuation of normal life in Iraq. We Americans can not keep our noses out of other peoples business. We are resented worldwide because we are invasive, arrogant, and rich. We might be better restricting our operations to those that are absolutely essential to our survival. Im not talking about some bureaucrats perceived idea of what is essential. I am talking about fact. As our resources dwindle, we should reduce the population of the earth by getting the birthrate below the death rate.
