Can Anyone Become A Video Game Tester?

Author: Rich Heaney
The video game industry is a very large and profitable area of the world economy. The big games developers make a fortune from selling the latest games to eagerly awaiting gamers. As you know if you are a regular video game player, these games are expensive to buy. However there is a way to get these games for free and be played to play them!

This may sound too good to be true but as you can imagine when these games hit the shelves the developers want them to play smoothly and be bug free. Anything less and they will create a bad reputation which could impact on future sales. This is where your average game player can get in on the action.

Developers will pay game testers up to $90 per hour, depending on the game, for playing through games before they are released in order to iron out any bugs and glitches. Game testers need no formal qualifications or experience, just the relevant platform to play the game. It also helps if you are a reasonable game player but you don't have to be amazingly skilled.

The developer will simply send you the game in the post along with instructions on what they want you to do. This may involve filling in a form or questionnaire about how the game played, getting up to a certain level and reporting any bugs which you encountered in detail. Once you have finished you send them back the form and wait for your pay check to arrive. A great bonus is that you also get to keep the game you tested. This can enable you to build up a large game collection at no cost. You could even sell the games on after you have finished with them to further increase your income from games testing.

So lets just go over this again. You get to play a brand new game before it is available to the public, you get paid to play it and you get to keep the game when you have completed the testing assignment. Sounds pretty good don't you think? Admittedly it can be difficult to get your foot in the door and get your testing career off to a start. You need to get in contact with the right people and contact them in the right way. But as I said before you do not need any special skills to be a game tester and once you have completed your first assignment the developer will usually continue to send you new games testing assignments for as long as you remain interested.
